Eligibility
- All 2022 CedarLuke Young Artist Competitors must be 25 years old or younger on the date of the competition.
- Current MFA membership is required to participate (MFA memberships can be purchased in the competition application form below). Recordings submitted by non-members will not be considered.
- Previous first prizewinners are ineligible to compete.

Procedures and Deadlines
- All application materials must be received by Friday, February 15, 2022, 11:59pm MST.
- Montana Flute Association Membership (can be purchased in competition application)

- CedarLuke Young Artist Competition Fee - $25 (can be paid in competition application, non-refundable)
- Preliminary Round video recording (submit via YouTube as unlisted) email link to: [email protected].
- Finalists will be notified by Friday, February 18, 2022.
- The final round of the competition will take place during the 2022 Montana Flute Festival on Saturday, April 9, 2022, in the Recital Hall on the University of Montana’s School of Music in Missoula, MT. Pending the number of applicants, the competition may be split in to two separate rounds. In the event of a two-round competition, all performers will perform their required accompanied piece in the morning, and 3-5 finalists will be selected to perform their entire program (including the Busser) in the afternoon. You will receive an email from the Competition Coordinator by February 18, 2020 with the details of the competition as well as your performance time.
- Failure to meet the deadlines above will result in ineligibility to compete.
Repertoire Requirements and Submission Information
Preliminary Round Repertoire

Performers may choose to record each work separately or in one continuous take for the Preliminary Round.
Competitors will record and submit an unedited YouTube video performance of the following work:

About Margaret Cornils Luke
Margaret is an active flutist and composer, and her recorded works are widely published. Margaret Cornils Luke has performed alongside such classical music greats as Isaac Stern and Mstislav Rostropovich, and has also soloed with contemporary personalities including Garrison Keillor and Anne Murray. She has been active in theater direction as well as church sanctuaries. She has studied flute privately with Geoffrey Gilbert (teacher to Galway, Bennett, and Wye), Charles Delaney, Mary Louis Poor, Peter Middleton, Gale Coffee, Tadeu Coelho, and Jacob Berg.
Margaret Cornils Luke has over 35 years of teaching experience from beginning level to college and professional level. She has taught at the following colleges; Clarke University, Loras College, University of Wisconsin/Platteville, Hamline University, College of St. Catherine’s and Concordia College. She has taught at the following high schools; Glenbard South, West Chicago, Wabonsee Valley, Woodstock, Sterling and Galena which are all located in Illinois. She has taught privately and performed master classes all across the country.
Margaret has performed, judged and her compositions have been performed at several National Flute Association National Conventions. She has adjudicated competitions from All State to International Young Artist Competition. She has hosted and organized State Flute Festivals. Margaret Cornils Luke is a National Arts Associate with Sigma Alpha Iota.
Margaret has brought to stage flute standards from Syrinx by Debussy to the Poulenc Sonata. She has scheduled newly-commissioned work as well, ranging from Michael Gilbertson’s Sonata to Gary Schocker’s Morning Noon Night. She has premiered new concertos and has in turn been commissioned to compose works for all instruments and voices. She has been heard live on national public radio and been featured on national public television.
